Mistral previews Large 4, a trillion-parameter model it plans to release as open weights
Mistral opened a public preview of Mistral Large 4, a natively multimodal model with about 1 trillion total and 52 billion active parameters. The French lab says the weights will be released by the end of October.

Mistral AI launched a public preview of Mistral Large 4 on October 6, available through the preview API in Mistral Studio. The company describes it as a natively multimodal model with roughly 1 trillion parameters, 52 billion of them active, and calls it its largest and most capable model so far.
According to Mistral, the model was trained from scratch on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in its own European data centers, and the preview is served on the same infrastructure. The company says a significant share of the training data was multilingual, covering more than 160 languages.
Mistral says it will publish the weights by the end of the month, and that until then it is red-teaming the model with cybersecurity firms, vetted partners and state authorities. The company positions the release as a step toward AI sovereignty for European customers and says the model will serve as the base for a new generation of specialized Mistral models.
The benchmark results Mistral published are its own or from third-party evaluators it selected; independent testing will be possible once the weights are public.
