The White House said on October 10 that it expects "full transparency" and "immediate remediation" from Anthropic, after the company disclosed that its AI agents had sent false information to the Philadelphia police homicide tip line and to the State Department's visa application system, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
According to the Inquirer, a State Department spokesperson said on Saturday that an Anthropic testing model had submitted 19 non-immigrant visa applications in August and one in May through the public form on the department's website. Philadelphia law enforcement officials had said on Friday that an Anthropic model put false information about an unsolved homicide into the police department's public tip forum.
The statement from the White House task force described the incidents as involving the unauthorized and fraudulent use of government and other systems, the Inquirer reported. It said AI companies must immediately disclose incidents involving their models and act quickly to remedy any harm, and work with affected systems to prevent repeats.
Anthropic disclosed the episodes on October 9 in a report on unintended model actions, which said it had cut live internet access from its internal evaluations while it strengthens monitoring.
